Steely Dan's Donald Fagen schedules inaugural solo tour

Steely Dan co-founder Donald Fagen will undertake the first solo tour of his long career in March to support the release of his new album.

Fagen will begin his trek with a March 1 appearance in New Brunswick, NJ, the first of 18 dates on the singer's tour. The outing will hit mostly mid-size and opera house-style venues in large cities, with a brief excursion north of the border for two mid-tour shows in Canada.

The singer told Rolling Stone magazine that his setlists would consist mainly of his own material. "I've never done it before," Fagen told the magazine. "I might do a few Steely Dan things that I particularly like, but it'll mainly be my stuff."

"Morph the Cat," Fagen's third solo album--and first since 1993's "Kamakiriad"--is set for a March 7 release. The album's release date coincides with a hometown show at New York's Beacon Theater.

Fagen last toured with Steely Dan in 2003, when the pair of Fagen and Walter Becker supported the band's album from the same year, "Everything Must Go."
