Powerman 5000 To Introduce Dope To U.S. Audiences

The heavy metal rap and rock of Powerman 5000, last seen on Kid Rock's late 1999 outing, will return to the road in late January for a headlining tour of theater-sized venues. The band's sophomore album, "Tonight the Stars Revolt!" (Dreamworks) has so far logged more than 100 weeks on the Billboard 200 album chart, topping out at No. 29.

Static-X and Dope, which supported Sevendust on several dates earlier this year, will be the openers for the upcoming tour, currently scheduled to run through February. Tickets are now on sale in most markets.

"Tonight" broke out on the strength of extensive touring as well as airplay on MTV and hard rock radio stations. Its success came despite the fact that the CD was pulled from the shelves of Wal-Mart stores early in its release after a customer complained about its less-than-pristine language. Dreamworks records quickly edited a "clean" version of the album that was released a short time later.

Powerman 5000 frontman Spider One is the brother of Rob Zombie. Like the sounds and imagery favored by Zombie, Powerman 5000's overblown approach to music is heavily influenced by comic book and science fiction culture.
