Singer Mario Vazquez--who dropped out of this year's edition of the Fox-TV talent contest "American Idol," citing personal reasons--has signed a recording contract with Clive Davis' J Records.

According to the label, Vazquez recently began work on his debut album, which is expected to hit stores next spring.

"Mario Vazquez is a multi-talented, young, American-born Hispanic singer with the voice and charisma that we've been trying to find for a long time," Davis said in a statement. "His live audition for us was truly special."

The sixth edition of the Trenton, NJ, hardcore event Hellfest was canceled after officials at Sovereign Bank Arena--the venue that was to host the show--claimed organizers hadn't secured adequate insurance, according to local newspaper The Trentonian.

In a statement on Hellfest's official website, organizers said "circumstances beyond our control" led to the cancellation.

"After a full day in court in Burlington County, NJ, Hellfest was unable to meet unreasonable demands brought to Hellfest's attention by the Sovereign Bank Arena on Aug. 16, 2005 at 6:21 PM, and to be met by Aug, 17, 2005 at 7:00 AM," the statement said. "Actions were taken and Hellfest had an injunction filed by noon on Aug. 17, 2005, but was overruled by the judge.

"We send our deepest apologies out to the fans and everyone who was involved with the event and want you to be aware that legal action is being taken."

Hellfest had booked 180 bands to play over the Aug. 19-21 weekend, including Killswitch Engage, Public Enemy and Hatebreed.
