The White Stripes back 'Satan' with North American tour

Detroit alt-rock duo The White Stripes--currently in the midst of an extensive tour of Central and South America--are lining up a late-summer trek through North America to back their upcoming album, "Get Behind Me Satan," due to hit U.S. stores June 7.

The North American outing is so far scheduled to visit theaters and outdoor venues in about a dozen cities during August, and includes several multi-night stands. Details are below; ticket on-sale information wasn't available at press time.

Before tackling North America, The White Stripes--divorced couple Jack White (guitar/vocals) and Meg White (drums)--will spend the bulk of the summer touring former Eastern Bloc nations, including Russia, the Czech Republic and Latvia. The full itinerary is posted at The White Stripes' website.

Two U.S. festival appearances are also on the pair's schedule: June 10 at Atlanta's Music Midtown and July 29 at the San Diego Street Scene.

"Get Behind Me Satan" features 13 original songs, all written on piano, acoustic guitar and marimba, according to V2 Records. The album's first single, "Blue Orchid," is streaming at the V2 website.

"Satan" is the follow-up to 2003's platinum-certified "Elephant."
