MTV's "Campus Invasion Tour" Hits U.S. Colleges This Week

MTV's Campus Invasion Tour, which integrates a daytime interactive festival with a nighttime concert, opens Wednesday (10/20) at the University of Denver.

Garbage will conclude their 25-country world tour by holding down the headliner slot on the tour, which is scheduled to visit more than 20 U.S. colleges in six weeks. Alternative rockers Lit have signed on as the tour's opening act.

Admission to the concert is in the $15-$25 range. Admission to the daytime ''MTV Village'' is free. MTV Village features high-profile product placement for tour sponsors Neutrogena, 1-800-COLLECT, PlayStation and Toyota.

Among the themed areas that make up MTV Village are ''Spankin' New Music,'' where students can select videos to view in a ''video music dome'' and ''House of Style,'' which will feature beauty and skin care tips and product samples.

The ''MTV 101'' section will include a ''Sensory Overload'' tent where visitors can play new Sony PlayStation games, as well as an area where scratching and mixing is taught by a DJ.

The festival will also feature an area where people can audition for one of seven spots on upcoming seasons of the MTV series ''The Real World.''

MTV will debut a 30-minute special about the Campus Invasion Tour on October 27 that will include interviews with Garbage and Lit, videos from both bands and highlights from the interactive festival.
