New stadium shows on the books for Green Day

Green Day--a band that began its climb 15 years ago at a tiny, all-ages, punk-rock club in Berkeley, CA--will be headlining some stadium gigs this summer.

The trio--which continues to ride the success of its Grammy-winning 2004 album, "American Idiot"--has signed on to play newly announced shows Sept. 1 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ; Sept. 24 at SBC Park in San Francisco; and Oct. 8 at Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, near Los Angeles.

Tickets for the East Rutherford and Los Angeles-area performances hit the market Saturday (4/9), and San Francisco's on-sale will follow on Sunday (4/10).

The stadium dates come in the wake of Green Day's spring tour of North America--which travels the arena circuit in April and May--and a summer jaunt through Europe. (European dates are posted on the band's website.)

"American Idiot," which took this year's Grammy for Best Rock Album, entered The Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1 last September. After more than six months in stores, the triple-platinum set currently sits at No. 4.
