Miami Venue Becomes Second To Cancel Ruff Ryders/Cash Money Show
Miami's American Airlines Arena has cancelled its Ruff Ryders/Cash Money show on April 7, making it the second venue to cancel the rap concert because of a backstage melee that left six people stabbed at a Boston show last Monday.
A venue official said that a statement explaining the venue's decision was forthcoming.
Tampa's USF Sun Dome cancelled its April 6 show on the day of the performance. A Sun Dome official claimed that the facility did not have enough information about what took place at the Boston melee to stage a show safely. The tour, which features DMX, Eve, Juvenile and other artists from the Cash Money and Ruff Ryders labels, has performed in 30 cities without incident, according to the tour promoter.
SoundSpike could not confirm by press time the status of upcoming shows in Charlotte, Atlanta and Little Rock. Shows in Seattle, Sacramento, Calif., Irvine, Calif., and Phoenix are still on, according to the venues. Venue officials at the latter four venues were aware of the Boston violence.
The Boston confrontation took place away from fans, in an area reserved for artists and their guests. Guests had to show credentials and pass through metal detectors to enter the area. However, police found two knives in the area after breaking up the melee in which six people were stabbed, some critically. The incident caused venue officials to interrupt the show, though fans were not aware that a fight had taken place.
Police continue to investigate what happened, but no suspects in the knifings have been arrested.
