Los Lobos Tour On Hold After Apparent Kidnapping
Los Lobos has called off four concerts scheduled for next week in the wake of the disappearance of the wife of singer, songwriter and guitarist Cesar Rosas. Sandra Ann Rosas disappeared under suspicious circumstances from her Los Angeles-area home on Saturday night (10/23).
Cancelled Los Lobos performances are: Nov. 3 at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, Ga.; Nov. 4 at the Roxy Theatre in Atlanta; Nov. 5 at Jannus Landing in St. Petersburg Fla.; and Nov. 6 at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando, Fla.
Sandra Rosas was still missing Thursday morning (10/28), according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office. Her half-brother, Gabriel Gomez, 39, was arrested for suspicion of kidnapping on Monday (10/25), but the District Attorney's office has since decided against filing charges at this time. Gomez remains jailed, however, on an unrelated parole violation.
Rosas, 47, was last seen by her daughters at the Rosas' Rowland Heights home at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. When they returned to the house at about 11 p.m., their mother and the family's van were gone. Shattered glass was found in the driveway, and the door to the home was left wide open, the daughters told authorities.
After discovering that their mother was gone, one of Rosas' daughters called her mother's cell phone. The daughter told authorities that she heard Gomez's voice on the call, according to sheriff's office reports.
Authorities later found the van in the nearby city of La Puente.
Cesar Rosas was on the road with Los Lobos in Louisiana when he received word of his wife's disappearance. He told a gathering of press outside his home on Monday that he last spoke her at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Later that night, the band took the stage at the House of Blues in New Orleans.
Rosas returned home upon word of his wife's disappearance and Los Lobos performed without him at The Grant Street Dancehall in Lafayette on Sunday (10/24).
Los Lobos was touring in support of their recently released album ''This Time'' (Hollywood). The band hasn't announced whether or not they will play four shows scheduled between Nov. 17 and 21.
