Boston's Pixies add hometown show as end of tour nears
The Pixies, whose reunion tour wraps up later this month, have finally announced plans for a concert in Beantown.
The Dec. 9 performance will take place at Avalon, and tickets go on sale on Saturday (12/4), according to a press release. The show will be the group's first Boston concert since opening for U2 in March of 1992.
Though the band is sure to sell out the venue--which holds less than 2,000 people--a spokesperson for the group said that no additional shows will be added.
Following the Boston stop, a sold-out, seven-night run at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom caps the tour, and includes a Dec. 18 finale that will feature two shows. Details are shown in the itinerary below.
Earlier this year, the original Pixies lineup--vocalist/guitarist Frank Black (a.k.a. Black Francis and Charles Thompson), guitarist Joey Santiago, bassist Kim Deal and drummer David Lovering--reunited and toured together for the first time since holding down the opening slot on U2's 1992 Zoo TV tour.
Black, who spent much of the year telling interviewers that he wasn't sure if the band would ever release another album, recently told Florida's St. Petersburg Times that it was likely.
"Everyone is up for it," Black said. "But everyone knows I can be kind of hyper, all 'Let's go into the studio tonight after the gig!' I think I am smarter than that now. I know not to subject them to that kind of exhausting thing again. We're all waiting for the tour to end. We'll give each other a call and go hang out in the studio."
Meanwhile, Black has been busy with some solo work. In October, the singer issued "Frank Black Francis," a set that features one disc containing songs he recorded in the late-'80s, and a second disc featuring updated versions of previously released works.
Black also has two new solo albums in the pipeline--one of which is titled "Honeycomb"--that are expected to surface next year.
