Usher comes out on top at 32nd American Music Awards

R&B singer Usher was the big winner at Sunday night's (11/14) American Music Awards, scoring wins in four of the five categories for which he was nominated.

Usher picked up trophies for Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Album ("Confessions") in the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories.

Following close behind with three wins was OutKast; the rap duo pulled down Favorite Band, Duo or Group in the pop/rock and rap/hip-hop genres; and also scored favorite rap/hip-hop album for "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below."

The night's other multiple award winners were Sheryl Crow and Toby Keith with two trophies apiece; Crow was crowned top female pop/rock artist and top adult contemporary artist, while Keith snagged Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Album ("Shock'n Y'all") in the country category.

Country singer Kenny Chesney proved to be a fan favorite by winning the T-Mobile Text-In Award, beating out Evanescence, OutKast, Norah Jones and the otherwise unstoppable Usher.

Rapper Kanye West, who was nominated in the Favorite New Artist category, created some fireworks by walking out of the ceremony when the award went to country singer Gretchen Wilson, and told reporters backstage that he believed he was "definitely robbed."

"I was the best new artist this year, so get that other bulls--- out of here," West was quoted as saying in several published reports.

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel hosted the ceremony, which aired live on ABC-TV and featured performances by award-winners Usher, Chesney, Keith, Wilson and Alicia Keys, as well as Lenny Kravtiz, John Mayer, Maroon 5, Rod Stewart, Jessica Simpson and others.
