Jewel Cancels New Year's Eve Concert In Anchorage
The reasons remain unclear, but Jewel's previously announced New Year's Eve concert in her home state of Alaska has been cancelled.
The Associated Press reports that the folk-pop star was scheduled to perform at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage on Dec. 31. But she called off the show last week, reportedly citing concerns with how people would respond to ''Y2K'' and with the "unrealistic and unrealized expectations the promoter placed on Jewel.''
Slow ticket sales may have added to her concerns: only 1,000 of a possible 8,000 tickets reportedly were sold. According to the AP, some Alaskans questioned whether the $65 to $100 ticket prices were too steep.
Jewel is scheduled to perform live on the ''Today'' show on Friday (11/26). According to Atlantic Records, she will play several tracks from her recently released album ''Joy: A Holiday Collection'' as part of the show's concert series, which takes place live outside NBC studios at Rockefeller Center in New York.
