Summer fair circuit braces for Smash Mouth
California pop-rockers Smash Mouth are set to appear at several large summer fairs in the coming months as they continue to back last year's "Get the Picture?"
Since breaking through with their first single, 1997's "Walking on the Sun," Smash Mouth has been churning out a steady stream of hits via movie soundtracks and their own albums. "Get the Picture?" yielded "You're My Number One," a song the band co-wrote with Neil Diamond. The track features guest vocals from English Beat's Ranking Roger.
The collaboration with Diamond stemmed from the band's cover of the Diamond-penned "I'm a Believer," a hit that appeared on the "Shrek" soundtrack and on the band's self-titled third album.
Among Smash Mouth's other hits is the still-ubiquitous "All-Star," which appeared on the band's 1999 sophomore album, "Astro Lounge." The single helped to propel the album to sales of more than 3.5 million units, topping the group's double-platinum debut, "Fush You Mang."
Last month, Smash Mouth and The Bacon Brothers played a concert at New York's Central Park to raise money for organizations that assist homeless children, including the Children's Aid Society.
