Pat Metheny Trio sets up fall tour plans
Guitarist Pat Metheny, bassist Christian McBride and drummer Antonio Sanchez are looking ahead to October, when the jazz trio will kick off a tour of U.S. theaters and colleges.
Tickets for a number of the dates--which so far stretch into mid November--are on sale now. Information on ticket sales is posted at Metheny's website.
Next Tuesday, guitar virtuoso Metheny releases a new album titled "One Quiet Night." The set is a collection of 12 tracks that Metheny recorded at home alone with an acoustic guitar.
"Unlike most of our recordings that have involved lots of planning and sophisticated recording studios," Metheny said in a statement, "this one started and ended with just a single guitar and a mic. This record is about essentially one sound, basically one mood, and taking the time to go deep inside that single world."
Metheny went on to say that his stripped down approach included leaving untouched any gaffes that occurred during the process.
"I also feel obliged to add that the results here are also technically somewhat homemade; there are occasional flaws in the tuning and the recording itself--it was intended for nothing more than my own research and the pleasure of playing at home one night."
A streaming version of the track "Ferry Across the Mersey" is posted at the album's website, as is a Quicktime download of the cut "Song for the Boys."
