Christina Aguilera Graduates To Headliner

Organizers have firmed up much of the itinerary for Christina Aguilera's debut headlining tour, a 37-city jaunt that opens on July 31 in the Kansas City area, with Destiny's Child in the supporting slot. Tickets go on sale in several markets on May 6.

Aguilera's itinerary has her spending 11 headlining weeks on the amphitheater circuit. In addition, she will make appearances at fairs and Canadian arenas. The fair appearances will be smaller-scale productions.

The Grammy-winning teen's summer touring plans have apparently grown along with her record sales (which have reached 6 million in the U.S.): initial word was that she would focus on the fair circuit and large theaters.

In conjunction with the headlining tour, Aguilera and tour sponsors Sears and Levi's have announced a new initiative with Do Something, a charity that aims to inspire young people to ''take action to make the world a better place,'' according to a press release issued today (4/27) by Aguilera's label, RCA Records.

Under the program, dubbed ''Come On Over and Do Something,'' 50 Sears and Levi's Youth Empowerment Grants of $500 each will be awarded to fund community service projects of young people. Winners will also receive tickets to an Aguilera concert and the opportunity to meet her backstage before the show. More information is available at the Do Something website.

Besides the already confirmed dates, Aguilera's tour will make stops in the New Orleans, Houston, Denver, Salt Lake City, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, Los Angeles, and Phoenix markets. Dates, venues and on-sale dates for those shows will be announced within two weeks, according to RCA Records.
