Michael Jackson completes star-studded charity single
Michael Jackson has completed the recording of a charity single that features contributions from more than two dozen recording stars. No release date has been announced for the single, titled "What More Can I Give," and the charities that will benefit from the release were not revealed.
According to a statement from his publicist, Jackson secretly flew around the country since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to record with many artists. Among those who recorded the song were Ricky Martin, Mariah Carey, Carlos Santana, Celine Dion, Tom Petty, Beyonce Knowles of Destiny's Child, Usher, Julio Iglesias, Reba McEntire, Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, Luther Vandross, Shakira, Brian McKnight, Gloria Estefan, Mya, Aaron Carter, John Secada, Billy Gilman, Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men, Alejandro Sanz, Christian Castro, Olga Tanon, Anastascia, Juan Gabriel, Luis Miguel, Thalia, Ziggy Marley and 3LW.
Though Justin Timberlake of 'NSync and Britney Spears were previously reported as contributors to the single, publicists said that the two never agreed to participate in the recording.
Jackson will release both English and Spanish versions of the song, which he hopes will raise more than $50 million for the families, orphans and survivors of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
"There is a tremendous need for relief dollars right now and through this effort each one of us can play an immediate role in helping comfort so many people," Jackson said in a press release.
In 1995, Jackson co-wrote the song "We Are the World" with Lionel Richie, a song that was recorded with a slew of top stars. The song has raised $65 million to date for the USA for Africa fund, which aims to stem starvation and hunger in Africa.
