Mekka calls off electronic music tour

Citing a lack of sufficient time for production and promotion, Mekka Entertainment has postponed until next summer its inaugural electronic and rap music festival tour. The tour--which was to bring together both Mekka and De La Soul's Spitkicker festival under the Mekka name--was scheduled to start on Aug. 4 in Detroit.

The event scheduled for Club Space in Miami, Fla., on Aug. 11, is still set, but it will not be presented by Mekka. For more information on that event, see Club Space's official website.

Ticket refunds for the postponed shows are available at the point of purchase.

The Crystal Method, BT, Paul Oakenfold, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Carl Craig, Josh Wink, Roni Size and Mixmaster Mike were among the Mekkans slated to share venues with Biz Markie and Common on the 10-city, multiple-stage jaunt.

Besides production and promotion problems, there were numerous other obstacles to overcome. For example, according to Mekka's publicist, the Los Angeles venue had only recently been confirmed, and ticket sales in Detroit were slow.
