Squarepusher and Plaid team for North American jaunt
Squarepusher--a.k.a. Tom Jenkinson--will set out in early August on a month-long club tour to support his new album, "Go Plastic." Jenkinson will be joined on his first North American outing by Plaid.
Jenkinson will perform his brand of electronic music--which is described in a tour press release as a "spastic style of drum and bass"--on a "full rig of gear" rather than DJ-style, the release said.
Squarepusher's "Go Plastic" (Warp) was released late last month, and is the follow-up to 1999's "Selection Sixteen." Streaming-audio versions of all of the album's tracks can be found at Warp's official website.
An experienced jazz drummer and bassist, Jenkinson has been praised by some critics for infusing his electronica with elements of jazz, especially the avant-garde and '70s-fusion varieties.
Squarepusher's labelmate Plaid, an electronic act, will open. Plaid released its latest album, "Double Figure," in late May. The album is the final installment in a "musical trilogy" that began with 1998's "Not for Threes" and continued with 1999's "Rest Proof Clockwork," according to Warp.
Streaming versions of all 19 tracks from Plaid's latest can be found at the group's official label website. Downloadable versions of the "Double Figure" track "Squance" and previously unreleased track "Fell" are also available at the site.
