The Tragically Hip's Gordon Downie supports solo release
The Tragically Hip's lead singer, Gordon Downie, is heading out on a North American tour in support of his solo album "Coke Machine Glow."
The jaunt kicks off in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, on July 22 and currently runs through Aug. 10, when Downie performs as part of the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. Dale Morningstar (guitar) and Dave Clark (drums) of the Canadian band The Dinner is Ruined, Josh Finlayson (guitar) of the Skydiggers and Julie Doiron (bass) will join Downie on the road.
"Coke Machine Glow" (Zoe/Rounder Records), set for release on July 10, has been dubbed an "experimental 16-song disc." According to a press release, Downie decided to record a solo record because he had an abundance of material that didn't necessarily mesh with the Tragically Hip's music.
Kevin Hearn of the Barenaked Ladies and Paul Langlois of the Tragically Hip, as well as members of the Dinner is Ruined, make guest appearances on "Coke Machine Glow."
