First leg of Collective Soul's tour hits Midwest and South

Atlanta's Collective Soul has unleashed the first batch of dates for its spring-summer tour, which is slated to begin on May 4 in Norfolk, Va.

The tour currently runs through June 16, when the band will perform at Wild Adventures Theme Park in Valdosta, Ga. The itinerary includes a variety of venues, ranging from music halls to amphitheaters and theme parks.

Radio shows and festivals are also part of the run. On May 6, Collective Soul will be joined by Crazy Town, Train, Sister Hazel, Five for Fighting, Our Lady Peace and American Hi-Fi as part of the WAVF-FM Birthday Bash in Charleston S.C. Its May 18 gig, as part of Dallas' Wildflower Arts and Music Festival, also includes performances by the Go-Go's and Lloyd Maines.

Collective Soul will also provide music for the Indianapolis 500's Coors Carb Day on May 24, according to the race's official website. No other bands have been confirmed. The Indy 500 is on May 27.

Collective Soul's latest album, "Blender" (Atlantic), peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard 200 album chart last year. The band's latest single, the bouncy, piano-driven "Perfect Day," is a duet with Elton John.
