Chris LeDoux’s condition improves following liver transplant
update: Country musician Chris LeDoux, who underwent a liver transplant on Oct. 7, has been transferred from the transplant care unit at the Nebraska Health System University Hospital in Omaha to a recovery unit at the hospital.
According to his publicist, doctors are listing LeDoux in good condition, and he will be going home "soon."
LeDoux's fans and supporters have planned rallies and fundraisers in recent weeks to heighten awareness of organ donation and to raise money for organ donation programs.
One such event, The World's Largest Chris LeDoux Rally, took place on Oct. 7 at Billy Bob's in Ft. Worth, Texas. The event replaced a LeDoux concert that had been scheduled to take place on that night, but was canceled due to his surgery. During the evening, 1,700 fans signed a get well card and 600 people registered as organ or tissue donors, according to LeDoux's spokesperson.
LeDoux was suffering from Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, a liver disease without a known cause. The same disease claimed the life of football great Walter Payton in 1999. LeDoux's condition, which was detected in its early stages, was disclosed in mid-August when he announced the cancellation of the remainder his concert appearances for that month.
LeDoux's latest single, "He Rides the Wild Horses," was recently shipped to country radio stations. It is the second single from his latest album, "Cowboy" (Capitol Nashville).
