James Taylor, Dropkick Murphys perform at NHL Winter Classic

James Taylor and Dropkick Murphys will open the NHL Winter Classic hockey game at Fenway Park in Boston on New Year's Day, according to a press release.

Boston native Taylor will sing the National Anthem on the field at Fenway just prior to the face-off of the outdoor match between the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Fellow Bostonians the Dropkick Murphys will open the match with a performance of their signature song, "I'm Shipping Up to Boston," which was featured in the 2006 Academy Award-winning film "The Departed."

Daniel Powter, a native of British Columbia, will perform the Canadian Anthem preceding Taylor's rendition of the US National Anthem.

The NHL Winter Classic and the musical performances will be broadcast live in the US on the NBC television network. In Canada, CBC and RDS will televise the event live.
