Drivin n cryin celebrate 15th anniversary with tour

In honor of its 15-year anniversary, drivin n cryin plans to head out on 12-date tour of the South that kicks off on Friday night (11/03) in Spartanburg, S.C. according to the band's official website. The group's frontman, Kevin Kinney, also has four solo dates lined up on the tour's off days, as well as three more dates after the tour ends.

Following Friday's opener, drivin n cryin will head to Rome, Ga., on Saturday night (11/04); both gigs will feature John Wesley Harding. Kinney then has four consecutive solo dates set for Nov. 5 in Atlanta, Nov. 6 in Philadelphia, Nov. 7 in Boston, and Nov. 8 in Charlottesville, Va.

The band's anniversary run resumes in Auburn, Ala., on Nov. 9, followed by stops throughout Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. The final Dec. 2 date takes place in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Kinney swings back into solo mode for subsequent performances in Simons, Ga., on Dec. 7, Charleston, S.C., on Dec. 8 and Augusta, Ga., on Dec. 9.

"Ultimate Collection" (Hip-O), drivin n cryin's latest album, was released in August, and is a 20-track compilation of previously released tunes. The group's most successful disc is 1991's "Fly Me Courageous" (Mercury), which was certified gold in 1995 by the Recording Industry Association of America for shipping over 500,000 copies.

Kevin Kinney is touring in support of his third solo album, "The Flower and the Knife" (Capricorn). The disc includes covers of drivin n cryin's "Scarred but Smarter" and "Straight to Hell."
