Will.I.Am says Black Eyed Peas' tour will dazzle
Will.I.Am says the Black Eyed Peas' global tour that begins Feb. 4 will feature events and effects that have never been seen before.
"When we come to a town, the whole day will be Black Eyed Peas day," Will.I.Am said backstage at the Grammy Awards nominations event Wednesday (12/2).
The band will webcast the goings on backstage for fans hours before a show begins. After fans enter venues, they will be treated to DJ sets from Will.I.Am and other band members. Once the shows are finished, "Boom Boom Pow" buses will take fans to an after party.
The band will also place recycling containers throughout the arenas they play to collect plastic bottles that will be turned into fabric and become BEP garments after the tour. "You'll be able to wear your conscience," Will.I.Am said.
The Black Eyed Peas received six Grammy nominations on Wednesday: "I Gotta Feeling" is up for record of the year and pop performance; "The E.N.D." is vying for album and pop album' and "Boom Boom Pow" is entered in the dance recording and short-form music video categories. The two tracks were among the biggest hits of 2009, as both had lengthy stays at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"It's big accomplishment but it's because we're trying new things," Will.I.Am said, crediting his label and management with finding avenues for collaborations. "'Boom Boom Pow' was an internet song--DJs were using it before we released it. You can't pretend its 1998 and put your song out and make a video and hope it will get played. You have to go out into the world to make it stick, collaborate with your fans. It's a new day. It's new pavement we're walking on."
