The Whigs emerge from 'Dark' with year-closing trek

Garage-rockers The Whigs will head out on the road this fall in advance of their forthcoming third studio effort, "In the Dark," which the band hopes to release in early 2010.

The Athens, GA, natives kick off the outing Oct. 28 in Boston, and will canvas 29 cities during the late-year trek, which extends through mid-December. Details are provided below.

Set for release early next year, "In the Dark," The Whigs' third studio set, was recorded in the group's hometown with producer Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective). The album marks the band's first record with new permanent bassist Tim Deaux, replacing original bassist Hank Sullivant, who departed the group in 2006; the band had worked with temporary members during the interim.

The title track from "In the Dark" is currently available as a free download from the band's website.

The set follows last year's "Mission Control," which featured production by Rob Schnapf (Elliot Smith, The Vines).
