Paul McCartney culls album from New York concerts
Paul McCartney's three July performances at New York's Citi Field, the new home to Major League Baseball's New York Mets, will spawn a live album dubbed "Good Evening New York City," due in stores Nov. 17.
The album will be available in two formats: a 3-disc (2 CD/1 DVD) standard edition and a 4-disc (2 CD/2 DVD) deluxe version featuring expanded packaging, as well as a bonus DVD including McCartney's July 15 performance on the Ed Sullivan Theater marquee (including bonus songs not aired on the "Late Show with David Letterman" broadcast). High-quality vinyl editions will also be released.
All versions of the album include more than 30 songs that total nearly three hours of music. McCartney's setlists included material spanning his entire career, from The Beatles through Wings and beyond. The album features two songs from "Electric Arguments," the 2008 album McCartney released as The Fireman.
Among the tracks will be renditions of "Drive My Car," "Got To Get You Into My Life," "The Long And Winding Road," "Blackbird," "Eleanor Rigby," "Back In The USSR," "Paperback Writer," "Let It Be," "Hey Jude," and "Helter Skelter." Also included is a version of "Something" rendered on ukulele gifted to Paul by George Harrison, as well as a tribute to John Lennon in the form of a medley of "A Day In The Life" and "Give Peace A Chance." Wings-era selections include "Band On The Run," "My Love," "Let Me Roll It" and "Live And Let Die."
McCartney's Citi Field performances, which took place July 17, 18 and 21, marked the first musical events at the venue.
The concert footage was directed by Paul Becher, filmed in High Definition using 15 cameras, and incorporates digital footage from 75 Flipcams handed out to fans during the shows, according to a press release.
