Medeski Martin & Wood map US dates
Experimental jazz trio Medeski Martin & Wood have lined up a late-summer/early fall headlining tour as they support the latest effort in their "Radiolarians" trilogy of recordings.
The trio recently released the final installment of their "Radiolarians" project, which evolved from a desire to record and release new music only after performing it first on the road. The trilogy consists entirely of music developed and composed over the course of the band's three 2008 tours.
"The problem with us," keyboardist John Medeski explained on the trio's website, "is that when we record an album, by the time a record company gets it out, we’ve already been playing the music for six or eight months, and we’re ready to move on."
"Radiolarians 3," the third and last installment, features music composed for a November 2008 run of Pacific Northwest dates.
Keyboardist John Medeski, drummer Billy Martin and bassist Chris Wood have been playing together since 1991 and have long been a favorite in the jam-band community. In 2006, the trio launched its own imprint, Indirecto Records, and released "Out Louder," a four-way collaborative effort with guitarist John Scofield.
