The Breeders swap bassists for summer run's final shows

Josephine Wiggs, founding member of The Breeders, returns to the line-up tonight (8/21) for the final three performances of the band's summer run as bassist Mando Lopez welcomes a new baby into the world.

According to the band's publicist, lead singer/guitarist Kim Deal invited Wiggs, who performed with The Breeders from 1988 to 1994, to join the tour on Wednesday (8/19), after Lopez got word that his wife had gone into labor in Los Angeles.

The Breeders are wrapping up the eastern portion of their summer tour, which continues tonight (8/21) in Washington, DC, followed by stops in Pittsburgh (8/22) and Columbus, OH (8/23). "Fate to Fatal," the alt-rock outfit's recently released EP, surfaced in April.

Wiggs has spent the last two days learning the new songs and rehearsing the old ones "with a bass on her lap listening through headphones," according to Breeders publicist Heidi Ellen Robinson-Fitzgerald.

Wiggs' most recent performance with The Breeders was a 2005 anniversary show in London.
