Lisa Hannigan lines up support dates with David Gray
Irish singer/songwriter Lisa Hannigan will get some North American exposure for her debut solo album this fall as she opens a string of dates for David Gray.
Hannigan will accompany Gray on all 11 dates of his upcoming tour, kicking off Oct. 23 in Boston and concluding with a Nov. 9 show in Los Angeles. Details are included below.
"Sea Sew"--which was recorded over 14 days in a Dublin, Ireland recording studio, according to a press release--is Hannigan's debut album. The set was released last fall in Hannigan's native country, but took until February of this year to make it to the US. Hannigan is backed on the album by Tom Osander (drums), Shane Fitzsimons (double bass), Donagh Molloy (trumpet, melodica and glockenspiel), Gavin Glass (piano), Lucy Wilkins (violin) and Vyvienne Long (cello).
The album, which is shortlisted for this year's UK's Mercury Prize, hit No. 3 in the US on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart, and is certified platinum in Ireland.
Hannigan began her performing career after meeting singer/songwriter Damien Rice in a Dublin pub. She joined Rice's backing band as female lead vocalist, appearing on Rice's 2002 debut album, "O." After collaborating and touring with Rice for six years, Hannigan left to begin her own solo career.
