Chris LeDoux undergoes liver transplant
Country music performer Chris LeDoux underwent liver transplant surgery in Omaha, Neb., on Saturday (10/7), two months after he was placed on organ transplant waiting lists, according to his publicist.
"The transplant surgery went well and Chris is doing well at this time," said Dr. Debra Sudan, who performed the transplant. LeDoux was the highest priority in his blood type when the donor organ became available, according to a statement issued by his publicist.
LeDoux is recovering at a good rate, his publicist said. After being moved from the National Health System/University of Nebraska Medical Center intensive care unit to a transplant care unit, he was walking and able to watch a football game on television on Sunday (10/8).
LeDoux's condition, which was detected in its early stages, was disclosed in mid-August when he announced the cancellation of the remainder his concert appearances for that month. The same disease claimed the life of football great Walter Payton in 1999.
In lieu of flowers, LeDoux's family has asked that his friends and fans send cards to AristoMedia, 1620 16th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37212.
