Journey's trek covers summer

Resurgent classic rockers Journey have added new dates to their rapidly expanding summer tour schedule as the band continues to showcase new lead singer Arnel Pineda.

After an early summer European outing, the group returns to the US to launch the trek July 16 in Walker, MN. As currently composed, the tour runs through late September, concluding with a Sept. 26 show in Minneapolis. The group's US itinerary is included below; on-sale dates for the latest shows, as well as the band's full international schedule, can be found at Journey's official website.

Released last June, the Kevin Shirley-produced "Revelation" is a three-disc package, including one disc with 11 re-recorded greatest hits featuring Pineda's lead vocals, one with new material, and one DVD of the group's March performance at the Planet Hollywood Theatre for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas.

"We were feeding [Arnel] a song a day," keyboardist Jonathan Cain said of the brisk rehearsal/recording process of the new material in an interview last year with SoundSpike. "'Go home and learn this and come back and sing it tomorrow.' That's basically what he did. He didn't get a lot of time to rehearse these new songs, and he's killing them now. What he's doing on stage is so much better than the album."

Pineda, who guitarist Neal Schon discovered while surfing YouTube, replaced former singer Jeff Scott Soto in late 2007. Soto himself had replaced the band's previous lead singer, Steve Augeri, a year earlier.
