Soulfly expands fall headlining tour

After spending the summer headlining the second stage at Ozzfest, Soulfly is set to embark on a fall headlining club tour that kicks off in Los Angeles on Sunday (9/24). The group has added 18 dates to the upcoming jaunt, which now totals 28 shows and is scheduled to run until Halloween.

Soulfly will spend the last week of September making stops in L.A., San Francisco, Portland, Ore., and Washington D.C. The group's expanded itinerary will then find it in the Midwest for the first half of October, with a number of stops in the Northeast to follow. A string of Southern dates fills much of the latter half of the month, with the band ultimately making its way into the Southwest for stops in Texas, New Mexico and a final show in Tempe, Ariz., on Oct. 31.

Primer 55 and Slaves on Dope--both of which shared the second stage at Ozzfest with Soulfly--will open for the group on the upcoming tour, as will Downset.

"Primitive," Soulfly's latest album, is set to hit stores next Tuesday (9/26), and is the follow-up to the group's 1998 self-titled debut. The disc features guest appearances by the Deftones' Chino Moreno, Slayer's Tom Araya, Slipknot's Corey 8, and Sean Lennon, son of John Lennon of the Beatles.

Lennon and Soulfly founder Max Cavalera wrote the track "Son Song" together, which was inspired by their shared experience of losing their fathers during childhood, according to an interview with Cavalera.

A limited-edition version of "Primitive" is also being released on Tuesday (9/26), according to the group's official website. The version will contain four extra tracks not found on the regular release, the website said.
