Death Cab for Cutie extend tour, ready EP

Death Cab for Cutie has filled out its spring and summer tour itinerary a bit more, all in preparation for the release of its latest EP, "The Open Door."

Added to the spring tour are a handful of summer shows, beginning with a July 5 appearance at LA's Hollywood Bowl featuring the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and wrapping up with a homecoming show July 18 in Redmond, WA. The shows will feature rotating support from Ra Ra Riot, Tegan and Sara, Andrew Bird and the New Pornographers; details are posted at Death Cab for Cutie's website.

The spring portion launches April 5 in Toronto, and continues along the East Coast and through the north before heading south and ending up May 7 in Orlando, FL. The full itinerary is included below.

Ben Gibbard and crew will release the all-new EP online March 31, through digital retailers as well as at the band's website. Physical copies of the five-track effort will be available at shows beginning April 5, and on store shelves April 14.

"The Open Door" includes four songs recorded during the studio time that also created the group's chart-topping 2008 album, "Narrow Stairs." "Talking Bird," the fifth song on the disc, is a demo version of the original track, which made it on "Narrow Stairs."

DCFC bassist Nick Harmer recently told MTV.com, "When we finished 'Narrow Stairs,' there were four extra songs that, because we were trying to put together an album, we ended up not including--it's not like they're castoffs or anything; they're part of the 'Narrow Stairs' experience. They needed to have a proper home, and the EP is it."

The band recently unveiled the Walter Robot-directed video for their latest single, "Grapevine Fires."
