As their name implies, Eagles of Death Metal are a band with a sense of humor. Formed in 1998 by founding members Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme, the band has a moniker that suggests a cross between death metal and The Eagles. Homme has described their sound, tongue firmly in cheek, as "bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals."

It took six years for the band to release its debut album, "Peace, Love, Death Metal," due in part to the success of Homme's other group, Queens of the Stone Age. Last year's EoDM release, "Heart On," featuring the popular modern-rock single "Wannabe in LA," raised the group's profile substantially.

Now on tour, Eagles of Death Metal have shows scheduled in cities around the US through the 19th of this month. I caught up with them when they performed at San Francisco's Fillmore last Thursday (2/5), and here are some of my photos.
