The iconic Irish rock band U2 was a perfect fit for yesterday's (1/19) "We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration" at the Lincoln Memorial--especially since the event took place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

U2's signature lyrics are known for their social and political commentary, so it was no surprise when the group performed "Pride (In The Name of Love)," written about the struggle for civil rights in America. The original track refers to the assassination of Dr. King taking place "Early morning, April 4", when in fact it took place after 6 p.m. Frontman Bono, who since recognized the error, now often changes the words to "Early evening..." in concert, as he did on this occasion.

Monday also marked the release of U2's new single "Get on Your Boots" leaving many to hope a north American tour will soon follow. In 2005, U2 stopped in Oakland, CA, during the band's "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" tour. SoundSpike photographer Tim Mosenfelder was there, and here are some of his photos.
