Foo Fighters condemn McCain's use of 'My Hero'
The Foo Fighters issued a statement yesterday (10/8) denouncing the unauthorized use of their song "My Hero" by John McCain's presidential campaign. In the statement, the band says McCain's use of the song is the latest in a number of songs played at his campaign rallies without seeking permission from the band, its management, record label or publisher.
"It's frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property," the band said in the statement.
"The saddest thing about this is that 'My Hero' was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it ... used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song."
The band said it hopes the McCain campaign will do the right thing and stop using their song and start asking artists' permission in general. Several other artists have already denounced the McCain campaign's use of their music, including Heart, Van Halen and Jackson Browne.
