Teen Star David Tapped For Six MOBO Awards

LONDON-- Craig David, whose debut LP "Born to Do It" went to No. 1 on the U.K.'s Official Album Chart, has been nominated in six categories at this year's Music Of Black Origins Awards. The teen R&B singer will be up for Best R&B Act, Best Video and Best U.K. Newcomer. He will also be up for Best Garage Act and Best U.K. Single alongside the Artful Dodger for the song "Woman Trouble."

U.K. acts MJ Cole, Jamelia and the Artful Dodger picked up four nominations apiece. American acts Dr. Dre and Sisqo have received two nominations each.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez' "Feelin' So Good" is up for Best Video and Eminem has been nominated for Best Hip Hop Act alongside Dr Dre, DMX, Mos Def and Q-Tip.

The Music Of Black Origins Awards, now referred to simply as the MOBO Awards, began in 1996 with an emphasis on music genres--R&B, reggae, dance, drum & bass, jazz, gospel, and hip hop--which organizers felt weren't given enough attention at other British ceremonies.

This year's MOBO Awards Ceremony will be held on Oct. 4 at Alexandra Palace in London and be hosted by TLC's Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez and MTV presenter Trevor Nelson.
