Suede, Primal Scream Take Accountant To Court

LONDON--Top Britpop acts Suede and Primal Scream have issued writs against their former accountant Frank Dixon, alleging that he misused thousands of pounds given to him for tax purposes.

Suede's decision to sue Dixon came after the band found out in March that it was under investigation by the U.K.'s Inland Revenue for the past two years. The band subsequently fired Dixon and his firm FR Dixon, claiming that hundreds of thousands of pounds had gone missing.

Suede's lawyers said in the writ, "It became apparent that various payments purportedly in respect of their tax liabilities had not in fact been paid to the Inland Revenue by Dixon."

Chadwick Dixon, the firm that has since acquired FR Dixon, was also contacted by Primal Scream's attorneys regarding the missing £64,000 ($93,000). They replied that the sum had been "withdrawn by Mr. Dixon without our client's knowledge and it is believed that they have been used to settle personal liabilities."
