Mos Def To Headline Lyricist Lounge Tour
Mos Def will headline this year's Lyricist Lounge tour, set to kick off on Sept. 10 at the House of Blues in Chicago, according to a statement from tour organizers. The tour will showcase up-and-coming rap and hip-hop artists, including local artists.
Def released his first album "Black on Both Sides" in last October, and spent the earlier part of this year opening for D'Angelo's "Voodoo" tour. He is also scheduled to appear in Spike Lee's upcoming motion picture "Bamboozled," the soundtrack of which will feature songs by the rapper.
The Lyricist Lounge began in 1991 as an open-mic night in New York City, and helped artists such as Eminem, Foxy Brown and Mos Def get their start, according to the statement.
The event has also spawned an MTV series by the same name. The show, which airs on Monday nights, has featured performances by Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, Q Tip and others.
