Oasis Attacked With Rocks In Portugal

LONDON-- Oasis walked off stage during a set at Portugal's Sudvest Festival after fans began throwing rocks and bottles at the group last Sunday night (8/6). It was the second time in as many weeks that the band left a stage in the middle of a performance.

Troublemakers at the front of the crowd of 35,000 reportedly started throwing things at the group during the last half-hour of its set; a rock hit drummer Alan White. Singer Liam Gallagher then reportedly warned that if people didn't stop throwing things, the band would leave the stage for good. Gallagher's warning was ignored, and the band left the stage.

The group's management, Ignition, said in a statement, "This kind of behaviour is utterly deplorable. Had the rock hit Alan in the face he could have been very seriously hurt. It is regrettable that once again a small group of idiots have ruined a great night for the majority of fans."

Despite the band's bad luck this summer with European festivals, it has added to its itinerary the Gijon Festival in Spain on August 23.
