Emmylou Harris Assembles All-Star Cast For Anti-Landmine Benefits
For the second straight year, Emmylou Harris has gathered a line-up of top singer-songwriters to accompany her in a series of five concerts to benefit the non-profit Campaign for a Landmine Free World.
Steve Earle, Bruce Cockburn, Nanci Griffith, Mary Chapin Carpenter and John Prine--all of whom appeared on at least part of last year's tour--have been enlisted for this year's concerts, all of which will take place in the northeastern U.S. and in Canada. Last year the five Concerts for a Landmine Free World took place in California.
John Prine is scheduled to appear only on the tour's Dec. 3-5 stops. All of the other artists are expected to appear on all five of the tour's stops. Ticket on-sale information is not yet available.
The Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation is once again co-presenting the tour. According to the VVAF, Harris became interested in the cause after accompanying VVAF President Bobby Muller on a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia nearly three years ago.
In 1998, Harris spearheaded two other benefits for the same cause: a sold-out Los Angeles performance with her band Spyboy and a concert at Washington D.C.'s Constitution Hall featuring Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle.
