Matchbox Twenty To Launch Arena Tour In September
Matchbox twenty, which scored its first No. 1 single with the track "Bent" earlier this month, has begun to roll out plans for a North American arena tour. More than a month of dates have been confirmed, and more are expected.
The tour is scheduled to open on Sept. 12 in New Orleans, and confirmed dates run through Oct. 21. Ticket on-sale information wasn't available at press time.
The Jayhawks will support on all dates through Oct. 2; Shelby Lynne will open the remaining shows on the itinerary.
The band's sophomore album "mad season by matchbox twenty" has been certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. It peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 album chart during its first week of release in May. The album was produced by Matt Serletic, who also produced the band's 10-million-selling debut.
With the chart success of "Bent," and along with his work on Santana's multi-Grammy winning single "Smooth," matchbox twenty frontman Rob Thomas now has two consecutive No. 1 singles to his name.
Shortly before the new album hit stores, matchbox twenty embarked on a sold out, month-long club tour.
