The Los Angeles Times reported that OpenNap, "a grass-roots effort by about 100 music fans ... who have copied the bulk of Napster's central directory onto an informal network of personal computers," will continue where Napster left off.

EYada.com, the Internet talk radio station, announced that Johnny Rotten has received press credentials for the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles. Though eYada's press release makes no mention of it, one assumes that he applied for the credentials under the name John Lydon.

Austin blues guitarist Jimmie Vaughan will play at the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia on August 1.
