Celine Dion starts 'Taking Chances' in America
Celine Dion is off and running, having opened her 62-date North American tour last night (8/12) in Boston.
The superstar will continue tonight (8/13) with a second show at Beantown's TD Banknorth Garden before crossing over to her native Canada for multiple concerts in Montreal and Toronto. Since last check, Dion added a whopping ninth show in Montreal to conclude the tour in mid-February. She also added a third gig in Toronto as well as performances in New Orleans and Mashantucket, CT. Two-night stands are booked in Vancouver; Edmonton; Winnipeg; New York City; Uniondale, NY; and Newark, NJ. An updated itinerary is listed below.
Dion's "Taking Chances World Tour" launched in February and has rolled through South Africa, Dubai, Asia, Australia and Europe. The production is directed by Jamie King, who has worked on major outings by Madonna, Christina Aguilera and Ricky Martin. It features Dion performing her biggest hits and songs from her latest English-language album, "Taking Chances."
The new set, Dion's first full-length studio effort since 2003's multi-platinum "One Heart," surfaced in November and shot to No. 3 on The Billboard 200. The record has the five-time Grammy winner collaborating with artists including former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody, Linda Perry and Ne-Yo.
The "Taking Chances World Tour" marks Dion's return to the road following her five-year residency at Las Vegas' Colosseum at Caesars Palace. More than 3 million fans flocked to Dion's "A New Day" production, which wrapped in December after 723 sold-out performances, according to a press release.
A DVD version of the Sin City spectacular, "A New Day: Live in Las Vegas," surfaced in December. The disc includes more than three hours of bonus material in the form of three documentaries.
Dion has sold close to 200 million records worldwide since her American debut in 1990, according to a press release. Two of her albums, "Falling Into You" and "Let's Talk About Love," have reached RIAA Diamond status in recognition of sales of more than 10 million copies in the US. In addition to her armful of Grammys and other honors, the singer holds the title of the World Music Awards' Biggest-Selling Female Artist of All Time.
Last week, Dion's biography premiered on the E! Network's "True Hollywood Story" series.
