Three-Month Hanson Tour To Open On July 27
The three brothers of Hanson will kick off a three-month tour in support of their sophomore album in their hometown of Tulsa, Okla., on July 27. Hanson's camp hadn't released a confirmed itinerary by press time, but a tentative routing has surfaced that shows the three young brothers will play more than three dozen dates at large U.S. theaters.
The young trio burst into the public eye with the single "MMMBop," which topped the pop charts in 1997. Early sales of the band's follow-up album "This Time Around," which was released in May, have not been as explosive. The CD's current single "If Only" is getting solid support on MTV's "Total Request Live."
While Hanson's first album fit snugly into the bubblegum-pop genre--and helped to usher in a bevy of new teen sensations--the band moved toward rock on "This Time Around." The group teamed with several high-profile guests in recording the album, including DJ Swamp (Beck), guitar prodigy Jonny Lang, John Popper (Blues Traveler), and Rose Stone (Sly & The Family Stone).
Hanson performed a rendition of the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows" at the Songwriter's Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in New York earlier this month (Beach Boy Brian Wilson was among the inductees). The trio also participated in the event-closing all-star jam with the likes of Paul McCartney, Neil Diamond and James Taylor.
