Bobby Brown To Remain In Jail

Singer Bobby Brown was sentenced on Monday (6/12) to 75 days in jail after pleading guilty to charges of failing to report to his probation officer and refusing to take a urine test, according to a report in the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel.

Brown has been locked up in a Ft. Lauderdale jail since last month, after being arrested in New Jersey on an outstanding warrant issued by a Ft. Lauderdale judge. The warrant was issued last year after Brown refused to re-take a urine test that had tested positive for cocaine use, thus violating a court order to submit to regular drug testing.

The court order followed a 1996 automobile accident in which the car Brown was driving--a Porsche belonging to wife Whitney Houston--ran off the road and hit a sign; Brown's blood-alcohol level tested three times the legal limit, police reported.

"I have a disease," said Brown in court on Monday, according to the Sun-Sentinel. "I am an addict. I am an alcoholic. Hopefully, I can get back to what I do best--dancing and singing."

In exchange for pleading guilty to the two lesser charges, a more serious charge of probation violation was dismissed, according to reports. The 36 days he has already spent in jail will count towards his sentence.
