Andrew Bird plots fall shows from 'Armchair'
Singer/songwriter Andrew Bird jumps back on the road this fall for another round of dates supporting his most recent album, this spring's "Armchair Apocrypha."
Bird will play a mix of headlining and festival dates during the outing, which kicks off Sept. 1 in Vancouver, further breaking down his appearances into solo shows (with Bird accompanying himself on violin) and concerts with his backing band, which consists of drummer/keyboardist Martin Dosh and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Ylvisaker. The 22-city tour will wind through the continent until early October. All of Bird's upcoming dates are included below.
"Armchair Apocrypha"--which debuted at No. 76 on The Billboard 200 album chart after selling more than 11,000 copies during its first week, according to Bird's publicist--was recorded mainly in Minneapolis at Crazy Beast Studios and Third Ear Studios with producers Ben Durrant and Tom Herbers, respectively.
Bird assembled a cast of collaborators from the local music scene to help record his follow-up to 2005's "The Mysterious Production of Eggs," including Dosh, Ylvisaker, singer Haley Bonar, and bassist Chris Morrissey.
The video for Bird's "Armchair" song "Imitosis" debuts today (8/16) on the singer's MySpace page and will be available for viewing for one week. The video was filmed in Seattle by short film director Britta Johnson.
