Smashing Pumpkins get intimate with "Teargarden"
The Smashing Pumpkins will celebrate the summer with an intimate club run of the eastern U.S. in support of their recently released EP, "Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol. 1: Songs For a Sailor."
The alt-rockers will hit the road next month for the first time since 2008, beginning with a July 6 performance in Cleveland. The 14-date outing, which includes a July 10 appearance at Louisville, KY's Forecastle Festival, wraps July 24 in Memphis. The full schedule, including a short Japanese leg, is shown at right.
Tours of South America and Australia are expected for later in the year, according to a press release.
Frontman Billy Corgan will be joined by guitarist Jeff Schroeder, drummer Mike Byrne and new bassist Nicole Fiorentino on the tour, which will also feature fan-attended sound checks, the details for which are still being hammered out.
"We are going to do something unique, which is play an invite-only set during sound check of almost all new, unreleased songs," Corgan stated in a press release. "We're still figuring out a way to make it possible for some of the fans who'll be in the line outside waiting to get in for that."
The four-song EP, "Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol. 1: Songs For a Sailor," hit US retailers in December and is currently streaming at the band's website. A limited-edition collector's EP, packaged in a silk-screened wooden box, is also available.
