Cake plans fall trek in anticipation of forthcoming album

California-based alt-rockers Cake will visit a handful of North American cities this fall as they continue to work out the distribution aspect of a newly finished -- though still-untitled -- studio set.
The band will kick off the three-week tour with a Sept. 10 stop in Quebec City and a Sept. 11 show in Montreal, after which the group will return to the US for another eight concerts. The itinerary, which is shown at right, also includes a New Year's Eve (12/31) performance in Austin, TX.
Cake mentioned last fall via a press release that they were working on a sixth studio album at their sun-powered studio in Sacramento, CA. The project was reportedly being written, rehearsed and recorded using only solar power, living up to the title bestowed upon them by Billboard as being one of the top 10 greenest bands on the planet.
"It just seemed like the right thing to do," frontman John McCrea explained in the press release. "I believe in science, and science is telling us that we need to make adjustments. Living in California, it seemed like a waste not to take advantage of all the free electricity."
According to a statement posted at the band's website late last month, the forthcoming studio set is complete and the group is currently setting up distribution via their own Upbeat Records. No word yet on the album's actual release.
Cake's most recent studio release is "Pressure Chief," which surfaced in 2004 and peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard 200.
