Two weeks ago, Sufjan Stevens surprised fans with word of a major new tour, and last week he dropped a new EP. Now comes word that the singer/songwriter/composer will release a new album, titled "The Age of Adz," on Oct. 12.

One track from the new album, titled "I Walked," is now available as a free download via bandcamp.com.

"The Age of Adz" -- "Adz," his label Asthmatic Kitty says, is pronounced "Odds" -- is being billed as Stevens' "first song-based full-length" album since 2005's critical favorite, "Illinois."

According to the label, the new album "shows an extensive use of electronics (banjos and acoustic guitars give way to drum machines and analog synthesizers), and an obsession with cosmic fantasies (space, heaven, aliens, love), to create an explicit pop-song extravaganza, augmented by heavy orchestration, and maybe even a few danceable moments." The album also is said to feature traditional verse-chorus-verse structures -- something Stevens has strayed from since "Illinois."

Stevens debuted the "All Delighted People" EP last week via Bandcamp as a free stream, and it is now also available for purchase as a download for $5 at this link. Despite being billed as an EP, the recording clocks in at 60 minutes.

Stevens launches an extensive fall tour of North American theaters Oct. 12 in Montreal.
