Zakk Wylde tours to back book release
Before he begins work on a new Black Label Society album, singer/guitarist Zakk Wylde has embarked on a tour promoting the paperback release of his book "Bringing Metal To The Children: The Complete Berzerker's Guide to World Tour Domination."
Sticking with his well-known keen sense of humor, Wylde described the West Coast gigs, which run through May 1.
"I'm probably going to introduce the summer line of Black Label lingerie for men and various type things," Wylde said via telephone from his home studio, Black Vatican. "I'll be walking the Black Label catwalk with that."
The appearances are actually amalgamations of VH1's "Storytellers" with a book reading.
"I'm going to read a little bit from the book, do a Q&A, jam some more," Wylde said. "We don't have fans, we have 'fams.' It's a giant Black Label family. It's a cool little thing to go out and hang out with everybody, before we get ready to start working on the new record and getting ready to roll again."
"Bringing Metal To The Children: The Complete Berzerker's Guide to World Tour Domination" shares his sense of humor, Wylde said. There were no challenges in penning the book. He just wrote what came naturally.
"The biggest challenge was not dying from laughter," Wylde said with a chuckle.
"When we started the book it had a couple parts to it. It was kind of like stories, then it went through the Black Vatican, the home studio, putting scales in there. I go, 'This is like three books.' We started off the one day just taking the piss out of everything. We were literally on the floor laughing our asses off."
Wylde said he wanted the book to be like "George Calin meets Black Label on steroids."
"It started from there," he said. "The whole book needs to be continually beyond stupid. There really weren't any problems. Ask anybody who's in a rock band will say all you have to do is go out for two months and you've got a book. The cast of characters you run into in the music business ... the beauty of it is with any other job you have to have qualifications, a degree or some knowledge or background in what you do. In the music business, you just need to show up."
